AFAIK it runs, but don't know about how well. I biostar g31d-m7 ethernet have not tried it. I don't know about counting the PCB layers, but most likely cheap mobos are 4 layer, better ones 6 layer. I don't know if any top end motherboard is made using 8 layer, but perhaps.
